I Propose a 25 Hour Day

ClockIt seems to me that there just aren’t enough hours in the day. I just can’t do everything that I really want to get done, and I’m trying really hard. I schedule and work my butt off all the time, but just when I think I’m getting ahead, something hits me and then BAM I’m behind my schedule again. For these reasons, I’m proposing a 25 hour day.

Think about all the benefits a 25 hour day could bring. Assuming employers stuck with their 40 hour work week, we’d have an extra seven hours each week to do whatever we want. That’s right, whatever we want. Think about what you can do in seven hours. You could read a book, write a white paper, learn to ski, or a myriad number of other things. Add them up, and in a couple of weeks you could write a novel with your extra time. Isn’t that awesome?

Think of all the intangible benefits, too. Because we’d be unsynced from the sun, we could experience nightlife more. I figure that about a quarter of the way into a year, we’d be getting up when it’s dark and going to bed when it’s dark. That means that when we wake up for leisure time, it’s all in the day!

Of course, you can’t just declare a 25 hour day, but I’ve done a few calculations, and think it’s definitely doable. In the average year there are 8766 years and 365.25 days (factoring in leap years). If you divide 8766 by 25 you get 350.64. Thus we’d have five less days a year. That doesn’t sound so bad does it? If we did choose to keep the average year to 365.25 days then we’d have 9131.25 hours a year. The average lifespan number would go down because every year would be five 24 hour days longer. Also, the government would get to wait longer to pay Social Security (so why aren’t they already on this 25 hour day thing).

If only I had more time, I feel I could accomplish so much more. So join me in the proposal for a 25 hour day and let me know what you think.
